Processing Methods - talk to your bank about how you want to process credit cards
Paystation provides standard interfaces for:
3 party processing
This secure HTTP interface allows you to provide the most secure method of payments processing for customer facing eCommerce sites. Whilst protecting your customer's private details it also allows you to participate in the Verified by Visa and MasterCard Securecode fraud reduction schemes, saving you money on some of the risks of chargebacks. This is the type of processing that is most commonly approved by the banks.
2 party processing
This secure interface allows you to seamlessly integrate Paystation's Payment Services into your merchant eCommerce systems. It is particularly suited to Call Centre and Mail Order/Telephone Order applications.
Manual processing
This is for merchants with low volume requirements and no need for integration with their eCommerce site. It provides a secure web based data entry facility and is particularly suited for Mail/Telephone payment order processing.
Standard technology platforms
The Paystation environment uses the standard browser technology and server feature set to enable the service and there is no requirement for specialised software at the merchant or cardholder end for access to the service.
- cross platform (Windows, MacOS, Unix,Linux)
- cross language (ASP, PHP, C#)
- supports multiple shopping carts more information
Merchant Administration
When you use Paystation you still have full use of all the facilities, such as Merchant Administration, that come as part of your bank's Internet credit card payment service. Combined with Paystation's own administration facilities this means you can do all your payment administration from one place.
- access multiple Paystation accounts for one merchant bank account
- make manual payments
- perform refunds
- find lost transactions
Recurring Payments
Paystation does not offer a scheduled recurring payment service for payments at regular intervals. We do have some other options that will allow you to achieve similar results.
- Future Pay (Tokenised)
- Authorisation/ Capture (pre-auth)
- Batch
Future Pay (Tokenised)
What it is - the customer gives you the authority to take money from their credit card whenever you want.
How it works - the customer enters the credit card into your site. Your website sends Paystation the credit card number and we return a token. You discard the credit card number (but you might store the first 6 and last 4 digits and the expiry date so that you can let people see what card you are about to debit each time. You can then use the token to debit the card number whenever you need to - you give us back the token and we put the payment through against the card.
Benefit - you are able to take more than one payment from the same credit card in this situation, and can set up your own scheduled payments if that is what you require.
Downside - when the credit card expires the token is no longer any use and you will need to go back to the cardholder to get a new credit card number and expiry date. You will also need to be approved for 2-Party processing to use Future Pay (Tokenised).
Who uses Future Pay (Tokenised)? - Power companies, charities, and any business where the customer has an account that needs to be credited more than once by credit card.
Authorisation/Capture (pre-auth)
What it is - the customer gives you authority to take up to a set amount from their credit card.
How it works - you capture some or the entire authorised amount. When the customer is giving authority, your website tells Paystation the amount to authorise. The customer enters their credit card details into the bank branded screen and the details go directly to the bank. When you are ready you are able to capture up to that amount in one or more captures.
Benefit - neither you or Paystation sees the card details.
Downside - the credit card may have expired between the time when the authorisation is given and the amount is captured.
Who uses Authorisation / Capture (pre-auth) - accommodation services, bookshops and any businesses that need to ship products or has a limited quantity of stock.
Batch
What it is - you have a list of credit cards is your system that you would like to take money from.
How it works - your system generates a batch file, formatted in the way Paystation's batch processing system requires, and you upload that file for processing. Once processed you can either check the results within Paystation or download a results file and feed it back into your own system.
Benefit - with Batch you can maintain your own payment schedule and run batches whenever you need to.
Downside - When the credit card expires you will need to go back to the cardholder and get a new credit card number and expiry date
Who uses Batch - any business that uses MYOB or has a legacy system.
